Dr. Elena Korka
She has been working for the Archaeological Service of the Greek Ministry of Culture since 1979. She is presently Director of the Office for Supervision of Antiquaries and Private Archaeological Collections. In the ministry, she has held the positions: Head of Department of Greek and Foreign Scientific Institutes, Organizations and International Issues; Director of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, and; Director for the Documentation and Protection of Cultural Goods. Dr. Korka has been involved throughout her career in the ministry with the issue of restitution of looted cultural artifacts.
Archaeological excavation work:
- Participated in excavations in Athens, Eleusis, Megara, Corinthia, Crete, Thassos
- Director of the excavation project with the American School of Classical Studies in Athens in Kenchreai, Corinthia
- Director of the survey and excavation project in Chiliomodi, Corinthia
Has represented Greece at the following international organizations:
- UNESCO World Heritage Committee
- Committee for the Return of Cultural Property or its restitution in case of illicit trafficking Committee for the Second Hague Protocol
- General Assembly Council of Europe CD-PATEP Committee
- EC European Heritage Label
- Member of ICOM
- Member of ICORP ICOMOS
- Elected vice chair of ICAHM ICOMOS SE Mediterranean region
- Elected member of ICCROM council
Teaching experience:
- Supervisor for post-graduate and doctoral degrees in Greece and abroad at the Higher School of public administration
- Seminar lessons at the University of the Peloponnese, Kalamata, Thrace Post-graduate studies of the Initiative for Conservancy

She has written many articles and books and has been awarded many honors.
